Skin Conditions Requiring Skin Surgery
Skin surgery, also called excision, is a procedure used to remove larger growths from the skin. Common conditions requiring skin surgery include:
- Skin cancer
- Large, suspicious or bothersome growths
Skin surgery is done in our office for the above conditions. During the procedure, you are awake, and not feeling pain. Prior to the procedure, the area to be removed will be marked and you will be able to see the plan for surgical removal. The skin is injected with local anesthesia, the procedure is performed, and the wound is usually closed with stitches. A bulky bandage is placed on the wound that stays in place for 48 hours.
